Happy NFL Draft Day

Its that wonderful time of the year, folks! It's the NFL Draft. And we already know the first pick.

The Detroit Lions have signed Matthew Stafford to a WHOPPING contract. The deal is reportedly worth 78 million with 41.7 guaranteed over 6 years. However, conflicting reports from SI and ESPN have the contract worth 72 and can reach 78 based on incentives(report via SI) and ESPN are reporting it is worth 74 total. They all agree that the deal is worth 41.7 guaranteed.

A couple of rumors to catch you up on:

-The Broncos intrest in Mark Sanchez is minimal if any
-Leauge chatter indicates there might be a "surprise" pick in the top 10.
-The Cardinals have dropped the asking price for Boldin to a 2nd round pick+Player

and now a bit on the reason I started this blog. The New York Football Giants:

Are we in the running or out of the running for Braylon? I'd say its a 40-60 chance hes a Giant tomorrow.

We have intrest in trading up for Darius Haywerd Bey. Big Mistake he will not be any good.

Breaking Down The Edwards Vs Boldin Debate

As you know by now the giants have a glaring need at WR and the two likely options are Boldin and Edwards. Each have their pros and cons so lets take a look at each:

Anquan Boldin:
6'1 217 age:28

Career Stats:
502 Receptions

Braylon Edwards:
6'3 215 Age:26

Career Stats
227 Receptions
3,558 Yds
28 Tds

Boldin Pros/Cons

Pros: Tough Receiver; Great Hands; Great Underneath Route Runner
Cons: Lacks Gamebreaker Speed; Often Injured

Edwards Pros/Cons

Pros:Great Size; Gamebreaker Speed; Good Route Runner
Cons: Bad Hands; Inconsistency

Theres no doubt that Boldin is the better reciver but lacks the physical tools to be the kind of WR that Eli would feel comfortable with and theres also questions if Anquan can be a # 1 WR. Braylon is the kind of guy who can come in and fit right away with the rest of the Giants WR's and would demand the kind of coverage Plax did before he was cut. Drawing double coverage would also open up the underneath for Smith and Hixon(if neither are traded for Edwards) and would also take the 8th man out of the box allowing Jacobs/Bradshaw/Ware to run with more room. One thing for sure is the giants need a WR and couldnt go wrong with either Boldin or Edwards, however the more logical option is Edwards given his size and abilitiy.

Mock Draft Round 1: Part 3

# 9- Greenbay: Everette Brown, DE FSU

Greenbay needs to address this after being decimated by injuries to their DL all last season this gives them some depth and a player who can compliment Aaron Kampman well.

# 10- San Fran: Mark Sanchez, QB USC

After Alex Smith turned out to be one of the biggest bust of all times and a bunch of town drunks as back up QBs this makes the most sense for San Fran and can give them a QB of the future.

# 11-Buff: Andre Smith, OT Alabama

The best OT in the draft slips to Buff at # 11 who look to replace the recently traded Jason Peters.

# 12-Den: Rey Maualuga, LB USC

The first of the three USC LB's to go here. Denver fills one of its biggest defensive needs here and can fill another one at # 18.

Mock Draft Round 1: Part 2

Here are the next 4 picks in the first round.

# 5-Clev: Michael Crabtree, WR Texas Tech

If Braylon is traded it will be after the fact they know they can secure Michael Crabtree. Crabtree would step in and produce for the Browns right awya.

# 6-Cin: Eugene Monroe, Ot Virgina

The Bengals line is a mess and they need to do a better job of protecting Palmer. Defense might be an option here for the Bengals but like the Rams you have to take your LT of the future.

# 7-OAK: B.J. Raji, DT Boston College

The Raiders need a physical presence inside and Raji could create alot of problems and allow Oaks pass rushers to get to the QB.

# 8-Jax: Jeremy Maclin, WR Missouri

WR has always been a problem for the Jags. Since they fixed their OL Wr makes the most sense and finally gives Garrard a WR he so desperatley needs.
